Sterne is Ruff's meditative photographic series created from archival astronomical negatives sourced from the European Southern Observatory. The work titled "13h 36m / -35°" references a specific celestial coordinate, grounding its poetic cosmic imagery in scientific observation. By enlarging and recontextualizing these archival star fields, Ruff blurs the boundary between photography, conceptual art, and abstraction inviting reflection on scale, perception, and the limits of human understanding. The piece depicts a dense, star-speckled sky against a deep black background evokes the sublime silence of the cosmos while positioning photography as both document and fiction.
