“As we left his house, he impulsively grabbed a hat from his coat rack. We walked through the woods behind his house looking for a good spot to take a picture. It had been raining. He paused for a moment, apparently inspired, and pointed to the ground. ‘What about taking one from down there?’ I started kneeling and saw that it was muddy but didn’t stop. He began putting on his hat and asked, ‘Do you think I should wear this?’, smiling at the thought of how he might look in such an out of character, traditional hat. ‘I don’t know,’ I responded as I snapped the shutter. It happened very quickly. It is best to be open in life. Had I resisted, I would have missed the unique moment which became the cover of ‘Nashville Skyline’.
