Overview
At its most fundamental, photography is the art of capturing light and shadow—a delicate balance between revelation and concealment. As autumn deepens into winter in the Northern Hemisphere, this collection celebrates works that harness the absence of light, exploring the mystery of night, the richness of darkness, and the liminal beauty of twilight.
The Dark Side features night photography by Magnum masters Martin Parr, Alec Soth, Alex Webb, and Todd Hido. Robert Longo's nine-colour silkscreen Falling Flag reveals the nuanced complexity of shadow itself. Thomas Ruff's 13h 36m / -35° from his Sterne series captures the profound darkness of deep space, inviting us to contemplate our place in the cosmos.
